About us

My passion for lampshades ignited in 1994—wow, 30 years ago—when a friend, an interior designer, asked me to refurbish a lampshade to match a client's new decor.

Even with a background of pattern design and sewing, it took countless hours of peeling away old fabric, sanding down the surface, painting, designing a new pattern, and endless hand-sewing amidst the inevitable glue mishaps that left my clothes a mess, I proudly presented the transformed shade. At that moment, I swore never again.

Yet, challenges are irresistible. From restoring wires and PVC to crafting replicas, learning to weld, and shaping wire into forms, within six months we were equipped to design and create our own shades. Now, many years later, we continue to craft exquisite shades, bending wire into circles, welding meticulously, bonding PVC, sewing fabrics, and producing one beautiful shade after another—while still expertly restoring vintage pieces from our Workshop and Studio in the Somerset West Business Park.

In 2012, we launched a Lampshade Boutique, The Lampshade Studio, in Somerset West Decor Centre, which offer a very large selection of ready made lampshades, or bring your own fabrics and we will make the shades up for you.

In 2014, we established a woodworking facility Box and Base, for supplying bespoke wooden lamp bases in various woods and finishes to our Store, Retailers, Hotels, and Discerning clients. They also design and sell the well known Fijn Brand of lamps.

We moved to a larger shop in the same Somerset West Decor Centre in 2022 and opened a small Coffee Shop for our clients who travel from afar. We look forward to serve  you.
